Ashley Civelli, John E. Janco, President & CEO, and Zachary Austin
Zachary Austin and Ashley Civelli are the recipients of the Torrington Savings Bank Scholarships for 2018. The program offers two graduating seniors in Torrington Savings Bank’s deposit area a 4-year, $10,000 scholarship ($2,500 per year).
Zachary will be attending the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana where he will major in finance. He is ranked 2nd in his graduating class at Northwestern Regional High School with a GPA of 4.5879, and is a member of the Model UN Club, Mock Trial team, and the National Honor Society.
A Governor’s Scholar in the spring of 2017, he was also a semifinalist in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program. Zach was class president all four years of high school and was one of two student representatives to the Winchester Board of Education. Zach was elected a co-captain of the baseball team his senior year and is a lector at his church. He also finds time to help coach Little League baseball in addition to working a part-time job at a local bank and as a private math tutor. Zach was also a member of Future Business Leaders of America where he served as Public Relations Office and is a founder of Students Helping Students Academic Support Group.
Ashley Civelli will be attending Central Connecticut State University, where she plans to major in music education. Ashley graduated 8th in her class at Torrington High School with a 98.2012 weighted cumulative GPA.
Ashley is a member of the National Honor Society and Rho Kappa Honor Society as well as a member of the Mayor’s Committee on Youth. She has been a member of the Forbes Flyers Jump Rope Team since 2007 and recently participated in a competition in Wisconsin. A member of the Torrington High School Band, she has also participated in the All City Band and served as piano accompanist for several local elementary school choruses and orchestras. Active as a volunteer in her church youth group, she also volunteers in the community with the B. P. O. E #372 Antlers program.
As you can see from the lists of accomplishments of both Zachary and Ashley, the Scholarship Committee has chosen two very deserving recipients. We wish them well in their future endeavors.
